Türkiye uses Type C and Type F plugs, the round two-pin European plugs, and the mains supply is 230 volts at 50 Hz. Wall sockets are Type F (Schuko), which also take the thinner Type C plug. Visitors from most of continental Europe, Russia, Azerbaijan and Central Asia don’t need an adapter. Visitors from the UK and Ireland, the US and Canada, India, the Gulf states, Australia and China do. Most phone and laptop chargers are rated “100–240V”, so they only need a plug adapter, not a voltage converter.

The two plug types
- Type C (Europlug): two round pins and no earth. It’s thin and flat, and fits both Type C and Type F sockets.
- Type F (Schuko): two round pins plus earthing clips at the top and bottom. It’s the standard socket in Turkish homes and hotels.
A plug with two round pins will almost always fit. If yours is the chunkier earthed European kind, it will fit a Type F socket too.

Voltage: adapter or converter?
A plug adapter changes the shape of the plug. It doesn’t change the voltage. Türkiye’s supply is 230 V.
- Look at the label on your charger or device. If it says “Input: 100–240V”, it works on Turkish power with just a plug adapter. Almost all phone, tablet, laptop and camera chargers are like this.
- If it says 110–120V only, which is common on older hair dryers, straighteners and some kitchen gadgets from North America, you need a voltage converter. Or leave it at home. Plugging a 120 V-only device straight into 230 V can destroy it.
- Frequency: Türkiye uses 50 Hz. It rarely matters for chargers, but some motor-driven or timing devices designed for 60 Hz can run differently.
Practical tips
- Bring one good adapter per person, or one adapter and a small multi-socket strip from home, so several devices can charge from one socket.
- Buy locally if you forget. Adapters are sold at airports, electronics shops and many small corner shops.
- Check the socket fits your adapter. Type F sockets are recessed, so bulky adapters with a square body sometimes fit loosely. A slimmer round-bodied adapter holds better.
- Hotel USB ports save an adapter for phones, but a wall charger is usually faster.
